Big News!!

Kyle M. Berning here with some very exciting news... I am a BIG brother!!! My little brother Alexander Stephen was born on December 9, at 4:33 am. He was 7 lbs 4 oz. 19 inches.
It has been an adjustment having Alex home. But I am getting more accepting that this little guy is here to stay.

He likes to sleep a lot and does not cry very much at all. He is a pretty laid back little guy. From what I hear he does not like to sleep as much at night, but he is getting better. He is now letting mommy sleep 4 - 5 hours at a time!!! He is sleeping and eating better than I did when I was his age :)

Right now Alex does not do much but I think as he gets older I will really like having a little brother to play with.



Oh and I have only thrown a slipper at him once.

Christmas Time is Here

We got a real Christmas tree this year. Kyle did not seem very interested in helping to pick out the tree but he had a good time helping to decorate the tree.

Then it was time to decorate Christmas cookies!!!
We put on a classic Mickey Mouse Christmas movie and got to work!






It did not take Kyle long to learn that he could eat the icing and the decorations.
It was a fun family night getting ready for the Christmas season to begin!

Don't Mess with ME!!

DUH!

The other night it was time to brush Kyle's teeth. He already had his monkey and pasie, so I told him "You can't brush your teeth with your pasie in your mouth."

He turned to me, took out his pasie and said "DUH mommy!"

I could not stop laughing, I called Brian in and had to tell him that not only did our 2 year use the word duh, it was at a duh appropriate time! HA HA HA

So for the next few minutes all we heard was "duh, duh, duh..."

Big Boy!

It was time for Kyle to move from his crib to a big boy bed. I was really nervous about this transition. He slept so well in his crib and he had never tried to climb out. But we need the crib for his baby brother in a few weeks. We got Kyle very involved in the process of the transition to his new bed.
He helped daddy take down the crib. Then set up his new bed.





He was really excited to put all his animals in his new bed. (He only slept with a few animals in his crib).


Finally it was time to try out his new bed.
When he climbed in the first thing he said was "wow! nice!"
And Cole could not wait to try out Kyle's new bed.






He was so excited for his new bed that after lunch. He said "all done, nap now mommy." He has done GREAT! He is still very excited that he has a "new bed" and loves to show it to people. He has even seen his old crib in the babies room and it has not bothered him. I can't believe how big he is getting!!!

The Circus Dogs are Funny

I thought Kyle might enjoy painting. He likes to color with crayons and his favorite is to color with markers. I got him some water color paints and we went outside to paint. He was really excited about painting and I am not sure if he knew what it was. I showed him how to dip the brush in water first then the color and put it on the paper.
He seemed the most interested in dipping his paint brush in the water and skipping the color part.






He did get some paint on his hands.




He found a way to get the paint off his hands...

Not Yet

Kyle got dressed in his Handy Manny gloves and tool belt. Grabbed his monkey and his lunchbox and was walking up and down the hallway with a very serious look on his face. I asked him where he was going and told me "go to work mommy bye."
He could not tell me what his job but that he was only going to work.

Just like Mommy

I was tired after a day of work, dinner and doing some packing for the our move. So I put my feet up to rest and feel/watch baby #2 move around. Kyle decided it was time for him to do the same thing.

The Beach Part 2

We had another great family vacation to the beach. This time we went to Rehoboth beach. Kyle got a little braver this time and put his feet in the "big pool." Also, this time we were continuing our potty training and he did great!

Potty Update

Since my last post Kyle has only been wearing diapers when he sleeps. He is doing GREAT!!!! During that time we even took a vacation to the beach and he did not wear diapers when we went out. It did mean a ton of trips to all the different bathrooms in Rehoboth Beach.
Half the time it is mommy and daddy telling or asking him if he needs to go to the potty and half the time him telling us.
This morning he even woke up with a dry diaper!!!! He is going longer periods of time between potty breaks!
I am so proud of him and can't believe how big my little guy is getting.

Potty Training

Let me just say that potty training sucks! It is hard work for mommy and Kyle. But we are making improvements each day.
Kyle was showing signs that we was ready and I thought since I have time before going back to school this would the perfect time. It would also be nice to have a few months of diaper freedom before baby brother arrives in December.
The biggest problem in the beginning was finding something that motivated Kyle to sit on the potty. We have tried a variety of things... M&M's, cookies, gerber puffs, silly bandz, singing and dancing and gold (not real gold of course). Now we just rotate through the variety of rewards. (mommy needs to be getting rewards for this job also).
He has new Mickey Mouse underwear. The first day of wearing underwear, was like wearing diapers again. And I had to do a ton of laundry to keep rotating through his 6 pairs. He is now going longer periods of time and sometimes even telling me when he needs to go. And today he has been wearing the same pair of underwear since 9:00 (it is now 5:30). I do put a diaper on him anytime he is sleeping.
We have not left the house since Friday morning and have been totally focused on going on the potty. So today I had to get out for just a few minutes. We went to the store and were gone about a 1/2 hour and we made it back with seconds to spare without an accident!
I think we are getting number 1 down, now it is number 2. He seems scared to do this on the potty. But today he did tell me he had to go, but I could not keep him on the potty long enough and he went 2 seconds after leaving the potty.
I think I have used the words pee pee, poopie and potty more in the last 3 days than I have ever used them in my life.
Kyle is doing a great job and I am SO proud of him.
I think the cutest part is when I ask if he needs to go pee pee and he tells me "no pee pee all gone." I can't wait until I can say "diapers all gone!!!"

Stockyards

We were recently in Texas for Nick and Alicia's wedding. While there Brian, Kyle and I visited The Stockyards. It was a fun frontier town and it had a petting zoo. This was the first time Kyle has ever been to a petting zoo. He LOVED it. He ran right up to all the goats and said "hi neighs." He would grab each goats face and tell them "hi." We got some food and he loved feeding them (and they loved to be fed). Kyle even took some food from another girl when we ran out so he could continue to feed them.

One goat sneezed on Kyle and got snot all over his shirt!






He made sure he greeted every goat ("neigh") in the zoo.

Of course while we were there Kyle picked up a cowboy hat and practice riding.



We got to see a parade of longhorns. Kyle liked to wave at them as they walked by.

The Beach

We just got back from a wonderful vacation to Bethany Beach. We went with lots of family. Our friends also came down to visit for a few days. It was a blast. Lots of sun, sand and eating!

Kyle did very well, much better than we had hoped. He still does not like the "big pool" (the ocean) and does not like to go near it. And that is fine with us, we don't have to worry about chasing him into the waves the entire day. He liked to play in the sand and play in the little pool we brought down to the beach.

He makes me laugh. I love him SO much.
We have so much fun together. Like when we go to the pool. I jump off the side to him and I practice my kicking and swimming with him.






At night he reads me stories before bed. He always uses silly voices.

It Has Been a While

Hi, Kyle M. Berning here. It has been a while since the last post. May has been a very busy month for the Berning family. At the beginning of the month we took a family trip to the beach. I did not enjoy going on the beach. It really scared me when my daddy went too close to the water.


I did like hanging out on the boardwalk. The best part was getting ice cream each night. Daddy and I also found a playground to play on.





It was a great weekend. My mommy and daddy are hoping that I enjoy playing on the beach more on our two beach vacations this summer.

After our trip to the beach it was my mommy's birthday and Mothers Day. I made sure my mommy felt really special on Mother's Day.
Then I got sick with Roseola. I recovered from that just in time for my 2nd birthday!!!
I had a Mickey Mouse birthday party. All my friends and family came over to celebrate with me.






If you ask me how old I am I will tell you that I am 2 and hold up two fingers. My mommy and daddy can't believe that I am getting so big.

Then I went to my friend Parker's 1st birthday party.

Last week my mom and I went to see the Blue Angels. It was fun to see the airplanes do tricks. Sometimes it was loud and I had to cover my ears.

This weekend is my Aunt Heather and Aunt Lisa's birthday. The busy month of May continues right up until the end.

I am looking forward to my mommy being on summer break so we can spend lots of time together.

Hopefully my mommy or I will update sooner now that the busy month of May is slowing down.
